Offline Programmer – Profiling (Bending & Laser)

About the role:

Responsible for the translation of customer requirements and specifications into CAD geometries, suitable for all types of profiling software, additionally ensuring components are processed correctly within the CNC presses. Fulfilling customer quality and technical specifications in the most cost-effective manner, and in accordance with REL policies and procedures.

Day to Day operations:

  • Create CAD geometries from customers drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Create programs for the profiling machines using Trumpf, Bystronic and Flow programming software.
  • Mentor/Support shopfloor personnel by optimising methods of CNC bending process and ensuring all relevant information is available to complete the process.

Principal responsibilities

  • Create CAD geometries from customers drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Create programs for the profiling machines and CNC presses using Trumpf, Bystronic and Flow programming software.
  • Ability to create 3D CAD models and necessary process drawings from customer drawings and concepts using Autodesk or Solidworks software.
  • When required define and produce drawings/set-up sheets & tooling information for CNC presses to include relevant tooling requirements to ensure efficient manufacture.
  • Monitor activities, identifying opportunities for improvement, waste elimination and cost reduction including SMED, 5S, VSM, Cellular manufacture, flow, and other lean manufacturing practices processes.
  • Support the investigation and root cause analysis of external customer and internal NCRs as required.
  • Ensure corrective & preventive actions are incorporated into existing/ future tooling.
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested by your Line Manager or a member of the Senior Management team.
  • Identifies any unplanned constraining areas for early escalation and prioritisation.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Fully competent in CNC Pressing & tooling to achieve dimensional repeatability.
  • Previous experience of working within a manufacturing engineering environment.
  • Ability to interpret complex mechanical and technical drawings.
  • Previous experience of using Autodesk or Solidworks software.
  • Proficient using MS Office.
  • Budgetary awareness.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise effectively.
  • High level of CNC Press knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to provide practical solutions.
