About the Role:

A host of recent contract wins by our sister company has prompted the requirement to expand our team. There has never been a more exciting time to be a Manufacturing Engineer at Responsive Engineering with opportunities to contribute to UK armoured vehicle programmes. Working with the latest technologies, processes and capabilities.
Reporting to the Principal Manufacturing Engineer and working as part of the Engineering team, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the translation of customer requirements and specifications into ERP routings and manufacturing plans, fulfilling customer quality and technical specifications in the most cost-effective manner, and in accordance with our policies and procedures. You will develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilising knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication and machining processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure customer specifications and quality requirements are thoroughly reviewed and understood and incorporated in all routings and documentation.
  • Produce process drawings (including DXF’s) and verification of existing process drawing ensuring conformance of the component.
  • Define and produce drawings for Jig & Tooling requirements for manufacture.
  • Effectively manage process change to minimise quality and scrap risk. Communicating any changes and introducing these with quality and specification attainment captured and demonstrated at appropriate stages of the manufacturing process.
  • Produce detailed routings within ERP system including material requirements and documentation detailing manufacturing method and build sequences, showing targets times for each operation, aligned with contract budgets.
  • Work with procurement to determine product specifications for the correct purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, waste elimination and cost reduction.
  • Perform PFMEA and Risk assessments.
  • During the process of product review and manufacture manage all subsequent technical queries by liaising with external/internal customers.
  • Prior and during manufacture consult with operational team concerning product requirements and specifications to ensure manufacturing method and build sequences are understood, agreed and followed.
  • Issue and control drawings, build sequences to the production team.
  • Support the investigation and root cause analysis of external customer and internal NCRs as required and ensure corrective & preventive actions are incorporated into existing/ future routings and build sequences.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analysing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout. Support the business by identifying high return projects and preparing and presenting ROI justifications.
  • Support and project manage the introduction of new manufacturing processes and equipment, making sure that project schedules and quality gates are met so that the project is delivered in time and to schedule.

 

Candidate Requirements:

You will require a degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent with previous experience working in a manufacturing environment – understanding profiling, fabrication, welding, painting and machine operations with the ability to interpret complex mechanical and technical drawings. You should have a positive approach, with the ability to work as part of a team and prioritise effectively whilst working to strict deadlines.
Successful candidate would need to be able obtain and maintain the necessary Security Clearance as required.
