First-Year Plater Welder Apprentice Runner-Up in ‘TWI Student of the Year’ Award

April 15, 2025

We are delighted to announce that Rosie, one of our promising first-year Plate Welder apprentices, was nominated for the ‘TWI Student of the Year’ award by Newcastle College at the recent The Welding Institute (TWI) Awards and she took home the runner-up award!

The awards ceremony was held at Middlesbrough Football Club and recognised exceptional apprentices from across the region who have demonstrated significant dedication to their academic and practical development.

Rosie said, “I’m over the moon to be named Runner-Up Student of the Year 2025. It’s a nice reminder that the hard work has been worth it. Big thanks to Newcastle College for the nomination and everyone at Responsive Engineering Ltd for the support along the way. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and look forward to continuing my career in Engineering.”

Our Learning & Development Manager, Neil Mawson, added, “Being named runner-up in the Student of the Year category at the 70th Annual TWI Dinner is a true honour for Rosie. As a first-year apprentice, it’s incredibly rewarding to see Rosie’s hard work, passion, and dedication recognised alongside some of the region’s finest welders and fabricators. This is just the beginning of Rosie’s journey!”

At Responsive Engineering, we hold a strong commitment to supporting our apprentices. We invest significantly in their development to ensure that their talents are nurtured and fully recognised at our Armstrong Works site. Rosie’s nomination is a testament to her hard work and the quality of our apprenticeship programme.
