Reece Group is Shortlisted for Regional Business Awards

February 7, 2018

Reece Group has been shortlisted in the Heart of the Community category at the Tyneside and Northumberland regional final of the North East Business Awards.

Newcastle City Juniors based in Benwell

The nomination follows the Group’s support for charities and organisations in the West End of Newcastle, as well as its wide-range of engagement activities to inspire young people about careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

The Reece Group businesses; Reece Foundation and the LGA Foundation, the personal charity of chairman John Reece MBE and his wife Sue; have donated over £15m to initiatives across the region.

They include STEM centres in schools, support for young people starting their own businesses, grassroots sport clubs, youth organisations and food banks.

Engineers from across the Group’s businesses also visit schools, join in practical workshops and give tours of the Armstrong Works manufacturing facility as part of a STEM engagement programme.

John Reece, executive chairman, Reece Group, said: “It is an honour for the Group to be recognised in this way for our commitment to invest in the community in which we operate.

“Through our West End Fund, we are proud to support a diverse range of fantastic charities that are making a real difference to people’s lives.

“We are looking forward to being part of this event, which celebrates the achievements of the North East business community.”

Amy Taylor, regional events manager at Trinity Mirror, said: “The North East Business Awards are the biggest and best of their kind in the UK, with almost 2,000 people attending the four awards dinners across the region.

“The Awards toast success, celebrate achievement and highlight the fact that we have a great deal of successful and innovative businesses doing fantastic things right here in the North East.

“The Awards, held in association with the North East England Chamber of Commerce, shine a light on companies large and small and remind us that the North East is a great place to live, work and do business.”

The awards ceremony, which takes place at the Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park on Thursday 22 February will see business people from across a wide spectrum of North East industries come together to celebrate the good work that is happening across the region.

The two other shortlisted businesses for the Heart of the Community Award are AkzoNobel Ashington and Blyth Star Enterprises.
